Reading in SMJS

Our classes are always encouraged to read. We visit the public library and borrow books, we read in class from our classroom libraries, we write book reviews, we listen to each other reading and the teachers regularly read to the children.

In Scoil Mhuire Junior School we believe that no one can ever have too much reading in their life.

One of the most popular and important reading activities in our school is called ‘paired reading’. An older class joins a younger class and they read and listen to each other in small groups. It is particularly helpful in developing fluency in reading aloud.

4th Class regularly join 1st and 6th join Senior Infants for paired reading sessions.
